Remember when I gave you the house tour right after we moved in and showed you all the scary piles and the crap everywhere? Well, we finished unpacking long ago and there are still generally piles of scary crap all over our house because I have the equivalent of 3 full time jobs and a very poor relationship with laundry, but when I do clean my house it’s much different than when you saw it the first time. This first picture is our dining room table. During the first house tour we were still pretending this was the living room. We like having festive lights on all year round so Philip decorated our window with them. We love it!
Look how clean that floor is! The dining room table has no mail on it! Chick is running up the stairs to position herself for maximum barking impact when the mailman comes.
This is my single most favorite piece of furniture besides my desk. It’s from the early thirties and was shipped over here from Italy.
Just another view of my dining room. I’m only showing you the dining room and living room this time so I want to give you lots of opportunity to enjoy it. If you ever come to visit me you will not recognize them because they will be covered in crap.

I love this picture because of the light streaming in from the ONE window in this room. The curtains are usually drawn to keep the glare off the tv.
We like chairs, not couches. Though I miss having an alternative place to fall asleep if the bedroom is inhospitably loud. When we hang out together we each like having our own chair. The purple one is mine, the blue leather one is Philip’s and the dark rose colored one near the floor lamp is Max’s.
Lastly – this is the tv cabinet. It’s my mom’s and she’s taking it back to put in her apartment. We don’t know what we’ll do. We’ll have to find some kind of replacement. I’ll worry about that another day. The shelf to the right is filled with my cookbooks and gardening books.
Some day the stars will align and the upstairs will be all tidy and looking pretty and I’ll give you the tour of that. I’m just happy to have it on record that every once in a while my living room and dining room are neat and tidy and pretty and inviting.

Very nice. Do you have any shots if the outside vid the house or gave I just missed them. I like the color of the walls. Did you do this or was it existing ? I don’t remember seeing the beautiful cabinet from Italy in your other house.
Robin – I will post some newer outside shots soon. I did some outside shots before we actually moved down here but I haven’t taken many recent ones. My mom and my aunt chose the wall colors – which I love. Though I have to say that the lavender in the living room is not something I would have chosen myself because I don’t really care for cool colors on walls – for some reason I really like it here. They chose great colors for all the walls – it’s one of the many benefits of moving into a house my mom and aunt got their hands on first. I don’t have to repaint!
Tara – I MUST clean the house before you come to visit in May so you can experience this pretty tidy-ness for once. I can’t wait until you are here!
Your house looks so airy and peaceful and full of light. Also full of my favorite colors. Phil says if you could picture it in a bowl of ice cream it’s perfect for Angela. He’s so right. I love seeing how nice the space looks for you guys — it has a happy vibe. That makes me happy, too.
Meanwhile, I think you’ve just solved my color dilemma in my workshop (formerly my front room). I have been agonizing over color and your stairway is PERFECT. That pale blue/green against the cream walls… I love it. Thank you!

Angela – what a perfect way to describe what kind of colors you like – Phil has nailed it! This house is smaller than the other one by quite a bit which is much more suitable for us and yet we have more than enough space. I’m really happy with all the colors my mom and aunt chose and especially love the green bannister on the stairs and the buttery yellow of the walls in the stairwell which is continued in the upstairs room. It’s yellow but light and warm enough not to be overwhelming – yet more colorful than a cream. So – perfect!
I’m really happy you’re going to use that front room for your workshop – I always thought it needed to be a well-used room because of the pretty light in there and the space and it’s just so pretty. Are you going to wall it off from the front door and make a hallway there or leave it open?
